What is RAMAC?
RAMAC is G-Matrix's IoT product ecosystem — a range of low-power sensors and trackers backed by the RAMAC App for configuration, monitoring, and real-time alerts.
What is the RAMAC App?
The RAMAC App is the companion application used to configure RAMAC devices, monitor their status, and receive real-time alerts such as intrusion, tamper, low-battery, and heartbeat notifications.
What wireless technology do RAMAC devices use?
Most RAMAC sensors communicate over Sigfox (RCZ1), a low-power wide-area network. Several models add Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for local configuration, and trackers include GPS/GLONASS for location.
What is Sigfox?
Sigfox is a low-power wide-area network built for IoT. It sends small messages over long distances using very little energy, which is why RAMAC sensors achieve multi-year battery life without Wi-Fi, SIM cards, or local wiring.
Do RAMAC devices need a SIM card, Wi-Fi, or cabling?
No. RAMAC sensors run on the Sigfox low-power network, so they need no SIM card, Wi-Fi, or data cabling. Most are wireless and battery-powered, making installation quick and infrastructure-light.
Are RAMAC devices certified for use in South Africa?
Yes. RAMAC devices are Sigfox Certified and ICASA Approved for legal operation in South Africa. Selected models also carry IP65 ingress protection for outdoor use.
How long do RAMAC sensor batteries last?
Battery life depends on the device and reporting frequency. Most RAMAC sensors run 4 to 5 years on a replaceable battery, while trackers and panic buttons are rechargeable and some fixed devices are mains or vehicle-powered.
Are RAMAC sensors suitable for outdoor and harsh environments?
Yes. RAMAC sensors are engineered for rugged South African conditions and outdoor deployment, with selected models rated IP65 for dust and water ingress. Check the specific product or ask our team for the rating you need.
How are RAMAC devices installed and configured?
RAMAC devices are quick to install — most are wireless and battery-powered — and are configured via the RAMAC App. Many mount directly to fences, walls, enclosures, poles, or assets without specialist tools.
What alerts can RAMAC devices send?
Depending on the model, RAMAC devices send real-time alerts for intrusion, tamper, motion, door open/close, low battery, and a daily heartbeat to confirm the device is alive — delivered through the RAMAC App.
Does G-Matrix provide its own network coverage?
Yes. Where Sigfox coverage needs strengthening, G-Matrix offers RAMAC Sigfox Base Stations (Mini and Micro) to densify network coverage on-site, so deployments work even in remote or signal-challenged locations.
Which RAMAC product should I use to track vehicles?
The RAMAC Smart Asset Tracker (AT2) is designed for fleet and vehicle tracking, powered from the vehicle's 12V–24V supply with battery backup and Sigfox plus BLE connectivity.
